Manila, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has dismissed talks of a military junta against the Marcos government, reiterating it will not support unconstitutional moves.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Nov. 25, AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla echoed the rhetoric of AFP chief Gen.Romeo Brawner, Jr. that there is no military junta among the troops.
Fresh rumors circulated on social media last week about a supposed government “reset” that will oust President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte. Over the weekend, Senator Panfilo Lacson said he was offered to join a “civil-military junta” that will replace the administration.
“The AFP will never subscribe to any reset plot and our Constitution has no cheat codes,” Padilla told a press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo.
Lacson said the offer came from some retired military personnel, which no longer fall within the AFP.
“This is through their democratic processes… This is for other agencies to look into,” Padilla said.
“Sa AFP, wala pong puwang sa republika ang extra constitutional shortcuts whatsoever. Hindi po ito parang isang video game na puwede pong nating i-restart. So I would go back to that premise na wala pong restart plot within the AFP,” the military spokesperson said.

The military urged organizers of a rally scheduled for Nov. 30 to keep their word that the demonstrations would be peaceful.
“We trust them to uphold discipline so the event remains peaceful and lawful. We call on our rally organizers to police your ranks and ensure that participants remain disciplined and non-violent,” the AFP official said.
“Ang layunin po natin ay simple peaceful gathering where voices can be heard without putting anyone at risk,” she added.
