Vietnamese EV maker VinFast to ferry ASEAN energy meeting delegates

Metro Manila, Philippines – Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast will provide 11 electric vehicles to transport delegates during the 44th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and its associated meetings in the Philippines from Oct. 5 to 8.

VinFast, the automotive arm of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, entered the Philippine market in 2024 as part of its expansion across Southeast Asia. It initially introduced electric SUVs and has since expanded its local dealership network and electric mobility offerings.

The company said 11 units of its seven-seater VF MPV 7 will serve as the official electric vehicle fleet for delegates from ASEAN Dialogue Partners attending the meetings.

The regional gathering will bring together energy ministers and senior officials from ASEAN member states, Dialogue Partners and international organizations to discuss energy security, the transition to cleaner energy, renewable energy deployment and regional energy connectivity.

VinFast will serve as the official mobility partner for this year’s gathering.

The VF MPV 7 was launched in the Philippines in May. According to the company, the seven-seater has a 60.13-kWh battery with a driving range of up to 450 kilometers under NEDC testing.

It is powered by a 150-kilowatt electric motor producing 280 Nm of torque and has up to 1,240 liters of cargo capacity.

VinFast has been expanding its footprint in the country since opening its first three Philippine dealerships in July 2024. In September, the company announced agreements with 13 dealer groups for 27 additional showrooms as it targets 60 dealerships nationwide by the end of 2026.

The company’s vehicles have also become more visible on Philippine roads through Green GSM, an electric taxi service operated by another Vingroup company. The service launched in Metro Manila in 2025 with an initial fleet of 2,500 VinFast electric vehicles.
