Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino fans are in for a tennis treat as the country will be witnessing a higher level of competition in 2027.
The Philippine Tennis Association announced on Thursday, Oct. 1, the hosting of a WTA 125 tournament in January and the first-ever WTA 250 in November.
The Philippines previously hosted the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila in January, with Colombia’s Camila Osorio taking home the inaugural title.
The WTA 250 and WTA 125 are categories part of the Women’s Tennis Association tour, wherein the winners of these tournaments are awarded with 250 and 125 ranking points, respectively.
The WTA 250 is an entry level tier of the main WTA Tour, while the WTA 125 acts as a secondary developmental series.
This latest development will elevate the Philippines on the global stage as it will attract some of the best tennis players to showcase world-class talents and inspire the next generation in the country.
