Metro Manila, Philippines – Albert Ian delos Santos delivered a record-breaking performance in his Asian Games debut, winning the bronze medal in the men’s 70-kilogram weightlifting event on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The 20-year-old Filipino lifted 141 kilograms in the snatch and 183 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a 324-kilogram total.

His 183-kilogram clean and jerk set new Junior World and Junior Asian records, surpassing his previous mark of 180 kilograms. Delos Santos first lifted 181 kilograms on his second attempt before raising the bar to 183 kilograms on his final successful attempt.

The performance secured Delos Santos a spot on the podium, finishing behind North Korea’s Ri Won Ju and Japan’s Masanori Miyamoto.

Ri took the gold with a 349-kilogram total, including a 198-kilogram clean and jerk, while Miyamoto settled for silver after posting 342 kilograms.

Delos Santos finished seven kilograms ahead of Uzbekistan’s Adkhamjon Ergashev, who placed fourth with a 318-kilogram total.
