Metro Manila, Philippines – Much of the country may have a brief break from nonstop rains on Friday and Saturday as Tropical Depression Neneng weakens into a low pressure area and moves farther away, PAGASA said.

Clearer skies will allow people to take advantage of the extended weekend with a public holiday on Friday, August 21 (Ninoy Aquino Day).

The southwest monsoon, or habagat, will continue to affect the country, but will only bring cloudy skies and possible rains over the Ilocos Region, Apayao, Cagayan and northern Luzon, particularly Batanes.

PAGASA said most of the country will be warm, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Meanwhile, PAGASA is monitoring a tropical storm over the Pacific Ocean with international name “Saudel”.

“Saudel” may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Sunday and Monday, at which point it will be given the local name “Obet”.

PAGASA said “Saudel” is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains next week.
