Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered all national government agencies to actively support the month-long Philippine Creative Industries Month in September as the administration seeks to expand the sector’s contribution to job creation and economic growth.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 130, signed on August 18, government agencies, instrumentalities, and government-owned or -controlled corporations (GOCCs) were directed to participate in official programs and activities for the 2026 celebration.
Local government units (LGUs) and the private sector were likewise encouraged to join the celebration, which carries the theme “We Are a Creative Nation.”
Marcos also directed the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) to lead public awareness campaigns for the activities lined up throughout the month.
The annual observance of Philippine Creative Industries Month every September is mandated under Republic Act No. 11904, otherwise known as the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act.
The law covers sectors built around original creation, culture, and intellectual property—including audiovisual media, digital interactive media, design, publishing, performing arts, visual arts, and other creative services.
It also established the Philippine Creative Industries Development Council, with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) serving as its secretariat to drive long-term policy development for the sector.
The memorandum cited the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028, which identifies culture, tourism, and creative industries as critical pillars in strengthening the national services sector and establishing a globally recognized Filipino brand.
Funding and expenses for the month-long activities will be drawn from the existing budget appropriations of participating agencies, subject to standard government accounting and auditing rules.
The memorandum circular takes effect immediately.
