Metro Manila, Philippines – The laptop and mobile phone of the minor suspect in the Zamboanga school shooting are now with the Philippine National Police Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) for forensic examination.

PCol Richmond Tadina of the PNP ACG said the devices were surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, Aug. 19, with the child’s parents.

The forensic examination is part of the ongoing investigation on the shooting at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University high school campus in Barangay Tumaga on Tuesday, Aug. 18, which left two students dead, including the supposed shooter, said authorities.

In related cases, Tadina said the PNP ACG has handled 74 cases linked to nihilistic violent extremism so far, resulting in the rescue of 42 minors, including 30 of them 15 years old and below.

Tadina said authorities have yet to determine whether local groomers were involved in the cases, as social media platforms are accessible to young people.
