Death toll from typhoons, habagat rises to 6

Metro Manila, Philippines – The death toll from the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon, or habagat, is now at six, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Officials listed two new deaths in La Union — one from drowning and another from electrocution. 

Benguet recorded two deaths from landslides, while two others died in Rodriguez, Rizal from a rockslide.

Seven people were also injured, all in Benguet.

The NDRRMC said the calamities affected 74,755 families or 261,048 people across eight regions. A total of 2,519 families, or 7,580 people, are staying in 83 evacuation centers.

It also reported 120 damaged houses, ₱105.5 million in infrastructure damage, and ₱3.53 million in agricultural losses.

It said government agencies have provided ₱7.38 million in assistance.
