Metro Manila, Philippines – The Sandiganbayan Third Division granted the bail petition of former Senator Bong Revilla in his malversation charge linked to the alleged anomalous flood control project north of Metro Manila.
The court has ordered his provisional liberty upon posting of the ₱1-million bail.
In its briefer, the court said the prosecution failed to establish strong evidence of guilt in the malversation of public funds through falsification of documents.
The former senator has been detained at the New Quezon City Jail since January for the non-bailable charge.
The prosecution had accused Revilla of conspiring with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to facilitate the release of around ₱76 million for the project in Pandi, Bulacan, which investigators later on found out as non-existent.
Meanwhile, the court denied the bail applications of other accused in the case, including former engineers of the DPWH Bulacan 1st district engineering office: Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, and Emelita Juat.
Others were accountant Juanito Mendoza, and cashier Christina Pineda.
