Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Tributes were paid to former Senator Joker Arroyo, who passed away in the United States last Monday (October 5) at the age of 88.
Arroyo was a key figure in both the 1986 and 2001 EDSA people power revolutions.
He also served as a Makati congressman for nine years, and was a two-term senator of the republic. He was born in Naga, Camarines Sur on January 5, 1927.
Nothing but good words were offered to Arroyo on social media as Filipinos mourned his passing. Politicians and lawmakers described him as a “great leader, freedom fighter and statesman.”

Joker Arroyo had a great sense of humor. I know because he hired
me to be his lawyer for SC cases when he was in Congress. Salamat, sir.—
