Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — German car manufacturer BMW recently expanded its vehicle range globally with the introduction of the first-ever iX1 along with the latest iteration of the fuel-powered X1, expanding its offerings to meet customer demands for both traditional and electrified mobility, while also taking a pioneering role in sustainability.
In a recent episode of “One Small Act”, host Paolo Abrera shared the BMW Group’s greater aspirations— its vehicles need to be as eco-friendly as possible, not only during their locally carbon-free use phase but also in terms of their overall footprint, including the supply chain and production.

“Our vision is to achieve full circularity, meaning, in the future, when we’ll produce a car, it can be fully dismantled, recycled, and we build a new car out of the same material,” said Martin Zehentner, Head of Communication & Digitalisation, BMW Group Africa & East Europe.
He added that the BMW Group has been sourcing materials responsibly. These include providing raw materials cobalt and lithium to their suppliers.
“The iX1 is also a perfect product for that because it offers nowadays the full Power of Choice. You can have a combustion engine, a fully electric engine in one piece, (and) you won’t recognize the difference,” Zehentner said.
“So (it is) helping the customers make the transition themselves from the traditional combustion engine model to the fully electric ones,” he added.

The BMW Group has expressed its ambition to lead the way in sustainability which rests in six pillars: circular economy, electrification, production, supply chain, employee development, and societal responsibility.
Marlon Lipke, a world championship tour surfer turned eco-entrepreneur, echoed this sentiment on sustainable mobility.
“As a surfer, you feel it’s very connected to nature and then come times like we got to do something and with BMW, I just found that connection,” he said while joining Abrera in experiencing BMW’s iX1 in the Basque Country.
“And now three years driving around Europe, all-electric, and I always try to find also charging possibilities that have green energy,” he added.
