
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 25) — ‘Egay’ (international name: Doksuri) has weakened into a typhoon as it moved over the coastal waters of Calayan in Cagayan, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 p.m. bulletin.
PAGASA has also lifted Signal No. 5 over Babuyan Islands, but warned that “violent conditions” are starting over its eastern portion. Violent and life-threatening conditions are still expected for the area in the next six hours.
The same weather conditions are also possible for the coastal towns of mainland Cagayan.
Signal No. 4 is up over the northern portion of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte. These areas may face significant to severe impacts from typhoon-force winds.Signal No. 3 is hoisted in Batanes, the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, the northern portion of Kalinga, the northern portion of Abra, and the rest of Ilocos Norte.Signal No. 2 is up over Isabela, the rest of Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, the northern portion of Benguet, the rest of Abra, Ilocos Sur, and the northern portion of La Union.Areas under Signal No. 1 are Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Benguet, the rest of La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, the northern portion of Batangas, the northern and central portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, the northern portion of Camarines Sur, and the northern portion of Catanduanes.PAGASA said there is a high risk of a storm surge, which may cause flooding, in the low-lying and exposed coastal areas of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, and portions of Isabela and Ilocos Sur.The rest of Luzon and the Visayas may experience gust conditions due to “Egay” and the enhanced southwest monsoon.The storm was last spotted over the coastal waters of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 240 kph.It is forecast to move westward or west northwestward over the Luzon Strait in the next 12 hours and make landfall in the vicinity of Babuyan Islands within the same period.
