Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 19) — Filipinos who have yet to receive their driver’s license may have them as soon as September, when the supply of plastic cards is seen to normalize, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Wednesday.

“‘Yung license natin we’re expecting delivery by next week, initially pakonti-konti lang ‘yan. By September, na-deliver na lahat ‘yung pending natin na dapat iisyu,” Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said in a statement.

[Translation: We are expecting the delivery of licenses by next week, initially this will be in trickles. By September, all pending for issuance should be delivered.]

Early this year, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that the validity of driver’s licenses expiring beginning April 24, 2023 will be extended to Oct. 31 amid the shortage of plastic cards. The issue also prompted authorities to release temporary licenses printed on paper.

Bautista said the government is yet to distribute 130,000 driver’s licenses. Affected drivers may start claiming their license cards by August or September.

The DOTr chief also said the electronic driver’s license can be accessed by motorists via the Land Transportation Management System Portal.
