Metro Manila, Philippines – Netflix will roll out its ad-supported subscription plan in the Philippines beginning in 2027 as the streaming giant expands its lower-cost offering to 15 additional countries worldwide.
In a statement, Netflix said the Philippines will join Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand in the next phase of the expansion.
Netflix’s ad-supported plan offers subscribers access to the streaming platform at a lower price in exchange for limited advertisements shown between content.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding Netflix with ads to 15 new countries around the world in 2027, including in the Philippines,” said Amy Reinhard, Netflix President of Advertising.
“For members, it means more ways to enjoy Netflix at a price that works for them and for advertisers, this means the opportunity to connect to even more passionate, engaged Netflix fans around the world,” she added.
The company said more details on pricing and subscription plans will be announced in the coming months.
Netflix first launched its ad-supported tier in 2022 in 12 countries as part of efforts to attract more subscribers and expand its advertising business.
According to the streaming company, Netflix with ads now reaches more than 250 million monthly active viewers globally.
The company said over 80% of subscribers under the ad-supported plan actively watch content every week, while the plan now accounts for more than 60% of all first-quarter signups.
Netflix also said it now works with more than 4,000 advertisers globally and expects to generate around $3 billion in advertising revenue this year, double its projected earnings in 2025.
As part of its expansion strategy, Netflix said it plans to introduce more advertising inventory across podcasts and vertical video globally by 2027.
The company also highlighted growing advertising opportunities tied to Tudum, Netflix’s official fan platform, which it said generates more than 24 million monthly views.
“We have cutting-edge technology, great entertainment across shows, movies, podcasts, and live events, and the most engaged and attentive audience,” Reinhard said.
“Netflix is ready to compete with anyone,” she added.
