Cebu (CNN Philippines, June 23) — Grab Philippines-backed Move It has thrown its hat into the competition as it launched its motorcycle taxi service in Metro Cebu.
Move It General Manager Wayne Jacinto said the group hopes to give Cebuanos a better alternative in the motorcycle taxi industry. He also called on habal-habal (illegal motorcycles-for-hire) drivers to join their fleet.
Jacinto said Move It is authorized to operate in Cebu.
\”Actually, based on the TWG (technical working group) guidelines on motorcycle taxis, it states there that they approved three players to operate in Manila, Cebu, and CDO (Cagayan de Oro). And Move It is one of those three players,\” Jacinto said.
The government’s pilot program on motorcycle taxis began in 2019 – with Move It, Angkas, and JoyRide as participants.
The previous administration put a cap on the number of riders per operator:
Metro Manila – 15,000 riders
Cebu – 3,000 riders
Cagayan de Oro – 3,000 riders
Jacinto said Move It will soon fill up its 3,000 allocation in Cebu, where Angkas and Joyride also operate.
Local officials welcomed the entry of Move It, saying it will provide more accessibility and convenience to commuters.
