Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22) — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is considering downgrading the alert status in Myanmar from Level 4 to 2 to allow Filipino migrant workers to return there, an official said Thursday.
\”We’re discussing it para pwedeng pababain [‘yong alert level] para payagan ‘yong mga Pilipino na legal na nagtatrabaho dun na makabalik,\” DFA Undesecretary Eduardo de Vega told a televised public briefing.
\”‘Yong mga legal they are in Yangon. Business as usual ‘yong Yangon at saka Mandalay, it’s very possible na i-lift na natin ‘yong alert level para sa kanila. A decision will be made in the next few weeks,\” he added.

De Vega said he is set to visit Myanmar at the end of the month to assess the situation and make a final recommendation regarding the nation’s alert status.
The DFA raised Alert Level 4 in Myanmar in May 2021 because of the worsening conflict caused by the military’s takeover of the government. Under the alert level, the Philippine government will enforce the mandatory evacuation of Filipinos.
