PhilHealth expands hemodialysis sessions

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 22) — The Philippine Health Insurance (PhilHealth) Corporation has expanded its hemodialysis services for chronic kidney diseases stage five patients from 90 to 156 sessions, effective Thursday, June 22.

PhilHealth Acting Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group Rey Baleñ a said the additional sessions will ensure that hemodialysis patients will be covered for the three sessions per week for the entire year, which costs ₱405,600.

\”Dapat lang ‘yung mga pasyente ay nakatala sila doon sa ating PhilHealth Dialysis Database at syempre ‘yung kanilang dialysis ay rekomendado ng isang lisensyadong doktor,\” he noted.

[Translation: The patient has to be registered with our PhilHealth Dialysis Database, and of course, their dialysis should be recommended by a licensed doctor.]

Baleña pointed out that unused sessions may not be carried over to the next year.

He added that the budget to be used for the program is included in the ₱21 billion allocation from the funds of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for the improvement of PhilHealth services, including hemodialysis, orthopedic implants, kidney transplantation, breast, cervical, and prostate cancer, as well as open heart surgery for children.
