Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 21) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has logged a total of 256,977 traffic violations since the suspension of the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) in August last year.
Following the increase in violations, MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes appealed for more discipline from motorists.

According to the traffic agency, the violations include: disregarding traffic sign, number coding, loading/unloading, obstruction, dress code, attended illegal parking, reckless driving, Anti-Distracted Driving Act, and no crash helmet.
The month of May was tops with the most recorded violations at 32,739, followed by March with 31,329.
The MMDA earlier noted an increase in accidents in the last quarter of 2022 after the suspension of the policy.
The Supreme Court halted the implementation of the contested policy in August 2022 due to separate petitions filed by transport groups and a lawyer. The Department of Transportation also called on local officials to suspend the implementation of NCAP, citing difficulties of drivers to cope with high fines set by the policy.
The high court set the case for oral arguments on Jan. 24, 2023.
