
(CNN Philippines, May 4) — Jiu-jitsu fighter Kaila Napolis nabbed the first gold medal for Team Philippines at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on the eve of the opening ceremony.
The 22-year-old swept all her four assignments in women’s Newaza Gi -52kg., including the final match against hometown bet Jessa Khan, 2-0, on Thursday at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center in Cambodia.
“It was surreal. I still couldn’t believe I won,” Napolis said.
This is Napolis’ first SEA Games gold medal after settling for silver in the 49kg. division in the 2019 edition.
