
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 22) — The country saw a total of 12,426 new COVID-19 cases during the week of May 15-21, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.
In its weekly bulletin, the DOH said an average of 1,775 cases were logged daily. The latest tally reflects a 0.1% increase from the previous week.
The active case tally is 16,422, nearly four times higher than active active infections recorded a month ago.
Of the new infections, the DOH said 87 were in severe and critical condition.
Meanwhile, the number of critical patients currently in hospitals slightly climbed to 486, representing 9% of total COVID-19 admissions nationwide.
As of May 21, the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country is at over 4.1 million. At least 4.04 million recovered, while 66,466 died.
The DOH reported around 78 million individuals, or 100.44% of the target population, have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19, while 23 million individuals have already received their booster shots.
On the other hand, 7.1 million senior citizens, or 82.16% of the target A2 group, have already received their primary vaccine series.
An independent COVID-19 watchdog noted a decreasing rate of people testing positive for the virus in Metro Manila. However, several provinces continued to log high numbers with Isabela posting a 67.4% positivity rate.
