Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 9) — Barangay Ginebra defeated the TNT Tropang Giga in Game 1 of the 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup finals, 102-90, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Justin Brownlee was in his usual reliable form for Ginebra, dropping 31 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, while Scottie Thompson tallied a triple-double 10 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists.Ginebra was far from rusty after an 11-day break as it controlled Game 1 for the most part.Jamie Malonzo provided the spark for Ginebra as they pulled away in the second half with a couple of key runs to secure the win. He finished the match with 21 points, eight rebounds, and four rebounds.Christian Standhardinger added 16 points and 11 rebounds for Ginebra.Import Rondae Hollis-Jefferson paced the Tropang Giga with 30 markers and 20 boards.
