Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 19) — The German government is ready to assist the Philippines in its plan to shift to more renewable sources of energy, according to an official.
Jennifer Morgan, Germany’s State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action, made the commitment during her visit to the country for consultations with her Filipino counterparts.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, Morgan said Germany is ready to share technology, especially in wind power and other renewable energy sources.
\”The Philippines has tremendous resources, the sun the wind, we would dream of having such resources in Germany,\” Morgan said.
\”We can assist in the onshore and offshore wind energy plans. We could be sharing technology and technical expertise and how we could get the financing,\” she added.
Among her priorities back in Germany is to tap the private sector and other partners on how they can help countries with their renewable energy plans.
The official also noted that shifting to renewables should involve job creation, and make sure electricity is affordable.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has repeatedly said the country should start relying and shifting to more sources of renewable energy.
