Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 30) — Renowned Kalinga tattoo artist Apo Whang-Od is aging like fine wine as she graces the beauty issue of Vogue Philippines for April.
“Heralded as the last mambabatok of her generation, she has imprinted the symbols of the Kalinga tribe—signifying strength, bravery, and beauty— on the skin of thousands of people who have made the pilgrimage to Buscalan,” the fashion magazine said in its social media post.
The 106-year-old mambabatok can be seen in her simplest beauty with only red lipstick, a black top, a few colorful beaded accessories, and of course her tattoos that adorn her chest and arms.
