PH to ship durian to China in March

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 23) — The Philippines will begin exporting durian to China in March, Malacañang announced Thursday.

In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the Department of Agriculture (DA) has informed its secretary, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., of the scheduled shipment to Beijing.

Although a date was not specified, the DA’s Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) said an initial volume of 7,500 metric tons of durian, which was acquired from 59 local farmers and producers, has already been prepared for shipment.According to the PCO, Manila and Beijing have agreed on a protocol of phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh Philippine durian to China during Marcos’ visit to the East Asian country.

Marcos said at least four companies expressed their intention to purchase durian, along with other Philippine tropical fruits.
