Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 21) — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) conducted a two-day inspection on different bus terminals in Metro Manila going to different regions as the holiday exodus is expected to start Friday.
The DOTr Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT) posted a video on Thursday that showed the inspections in terminals of Cisco Bus Co, Baliwag, Victory Liner, Genesis, Five Star, BFCT, and JacLiner on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Among the inspections were checking of bus units, terminal lines, offices, bags, and bus permit-related documents. The agency also conducted a run-through of how security personnel screens passenger bags.
The DOTr said this is part of \”Oplan Biyaheng Ayos Pasko 2023,\” which aims to ensure safe travels for air, land, and sea passengers.
Peak season
As of Thursday afternoon, the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) logged 73,467 passengers in its transport hub while the Ninoy Aquino International Airport anticipates more than 145,000 daily passengers.
“It will peak around tomorrow or Saturday, we expect 145,000 passengers so that will be around roughly 10% increase in our usual levels compared to our peak season,” Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) OIC Bryan Andersen Co told a press briefing
Co assured that there would be no flight delays despite the influx of passengers.
Meanwhile, the situation at the Five Star, Baliwag, JAC Liner, and Victory Liner terminals in EDSA were all normal in the morning.
In an interview with CNN Philippines, the Victory liner terminal manager said they have added more buses and are expecting an influx of passengers on Friday.
The traffic volume in the freeway ranges from light to heavy as of 4:30 p.m., the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) said in a statement. The company said it has deployed more patrol teams to manage traffic situations in its toll plazas and interchanges.
