Metro Manila, Philippines – Ayala Corporation has appointed Cezar “Bong” Consing as chairman of Globe Telecom, succeeding Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, who stepped down after decades of leadership.
The move was approved during Globe’s organizational meeting following its annual stockholders’ meeting, signaling a leadership transition within one of the country’s largest telecom companies under the Ayala Group.
Zobel de Ayala, who also chairs Ayala Corporation, will remain chairman of AsiaCom Philippines Inc., a joint venture between Ayala and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (Singtel).
Zobel de Ayala welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence in Consing’s leadership.
“We welcome with pride the appointment of Bong Consing as Chairman of Globe Telecom,” he said.
“Bong has long been a valued leader within the Ayala Group. With his leadership, we are confident Globe will continue to build on its strong foundations,” he added.
Leadership transition
Consing brings decades of experience in finance and global markets. He currently serves as president and CEO of Ayala Corporation and previously led the Bank of the Philippine Islands from 2013 to 2021.
During his tenure at BPI, he oversaw sustained growth and digital transformation. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly two decades with J.P. Morgan, including leadership roles in Asia-Pacific investment banking.
He also served as partner and co-head for Asia at The Rohatyn Group.
Consing currently chairs ACEN Corporation and serves as vice chairman of both the Bank of the Philippine Islands and Ayala Land, Inc., among other leadership roles within the Ayala Group.
The Ayala Group said the leadership change is expected to strengthen Globe’s role in connectivity, innovation, and digital services as demand continues to grow in the Philippines’ digital economy.
Globe remains a key part of Ayala’s portfolio, supporting efforts to expand digital access and enable economic inclusion across the country.
