Metro Manila, Philippines – The House justice committee has ordered Ombudsman Boying Remulla to appear at its next hearing on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte to submit records of her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth (SALN).

Panel chairperson Jinky Luistro issued a subpoena to Remulla dated March 31, asking him to present certified true copies of Duterte’s SALN from 2007-2013, 2016-2022, and 2022-2025 “to be apprised” of her records from when she was vice mayor in Davao City up to her current position.

“You are likewise informed that you have the right to be accompanied by legal counsel during the proceedings, however, such counsel shall be limited to an advisory role and shall not be permitted to speak or otherwise participate in the proceedings,” the subpoena stated.

In a press briefing, Remulla said his office will provide the House a copy of Duterte’s SALN.

He said his office will deploy a staff to submit the records.

“‘Yung custodian ng SALN ang magdadala, hindi ako, personally. Hindi naman ako ang may hawak diyan, kung hindi officer na may hawak mismo ang magdadala sapagkat siya po ang may personal knowledge tungkol sa bagay bagay na kanilang hinihingi,” Remulla said.

[Translation: The custodian of the SALN will bring it, not me personally. I don’t actually hold it; the officer who has it will bring it because they have personal knowledge of the matters being requested.]

The vice president is facing two impeachment suits for betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery, and high crimes, among others. The allegations include misuse of funds as vice president and education chief, threats to the presidential family, and unexplained wealth.

Duterte’s camp previously skipped the previous hearing, calling it unconstitutional.
