San Miguel wins back-to-back PBA PH Cup titles

Metro Manila, Philippines – The San Miguel Beermen finished off the TNT Tropang 5G, 92-77, in Game 6 of the Season 50 finals to claim their second consecutive PBA Philippine Cup crown on Sunday, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

June Mar Fajardo delivered another monster outing for the Beermen with 29 points and 23 rebounds.

San Miguel flexed its might early in the contest, building a lead that went as high as 21 points in the first period.

Calvin Oftana then spearheaded a 15-2 rally in the second quarter as the Tropang 5G were able to cut the deficit to a single point, 34-33.

The Beermen responded with an 11-2 run to bring the lead back to double digits going into the halftime break, 49-39.

TNT grabbed its first taste of the lead, 68-66, following a corner triple by Jordan Heading in the third frame but San Miguel immediately regained the edge with back-to-back buckets from Don Trollano and Fajardo.

The Beermen had enough firepower to seal the victory while the Tropang 5G could not connect at the crucial stretch.

CJ Perez added 19 points and seven assists, while Rodney Brondial contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds for San Miguel.

Fajardo was awarded the Ramon Fernandez Trophy, formerly known as Finals Most Valuable Player award.

This is the Beermen’s 12th championship in the All-Filipino conference and 31st overall.
