Metro Manila, Philippines – Two tropical depressions may potentially develop within 24 hours, and may intensify the southwest monsoon or habagat, the weather bureau said on Monday, July 21.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said monsoon rains, which have caused nonstop downpour, may persist in Manila, Calabarzon, parts of central Luzon and Mimaropa.
PAGASA said rainfall that may cause gutter-level flooding in low areas may continue until Tuesday, July 22, in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal. The habagat may also dump occasional rains in Ilocos Region, Benguet, Tarlac, Marinduque, and Oriental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, the weather bureau said the two low pressure areas have a “medium chance” to become a cyclone.
“Itong dalawang low pressure area na ito rin posible rin sila mag-sanib,” weather forecaster Veronica Torres said.
[Translation: These two low pressure areas could possibly merge.]
PAGASA said there’s a low chance for the potential cyclones to hit land for now.
