Metro Manila, Philippines – One person was killed after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck southern Mindanao on Friday morning, Oct. 10, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported.
“From Region 11 (Davao Region), we received an initial report of one dead victim due to fallen debris. This is subject for validation,” OCD Assistant Secretary Rafael Alejandro IV said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 7.4 earthquake shook waters 43 kilometers northeast off Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 am. It was initially reported as magnitude 7.6.
The tectonic tremor had a depth of 23 kilometers.
Phivolcs recorded a 30-centimeter tsunami wave at Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.
By 1:43 p.m., the bureau lifted the tsunami warning it earlier raised for the coastal communities of Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Davao Oriental, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
As of 1:50 p.m., the bureau logged 213 aftershocks.
