Metro Manila, Philippines — Detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy has been confined at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City for an irregular heartbeat, which may be “life threatening,” the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday, Nov. 11.

PNP spokesperson PBGen Jean Fajardo said Quiboloy complained of chest discomfort on Nov. 7. The PNP General Hospital conducted a medical examination on the pastor.

“Meron po siyang irregular heartbeat that may be considered as life threatening. So, ang kanilang [PNP General Hospital] recommendation po ay ma-check po siya further to check kung ito bang kanyang kino-complain na pagsisikip po ng dibdib ay maaari pong – could lead to a more serious case po,” Fajardo said in a press briefing.

His camp filed a very urgent motion, to which the Pasig court granted and issued an order.

On Nov. 8, authorities brought Quiboloy to the Philippine Heart Center from the PNP Custodial Facility, where he has been detained.

“It’s a regular room po,” she said. “Heavily guarded ang kanyang room. Remember, he’s a detainee. So restricted po – at least, limited po yung mga rights na pwede niya i-avail.”

Quiboloy was supposed to return to the PNP Custodial Center on Monday. But the Pasig court extended his medical furlough until Nov. 16, 5 p.m. to complete the tests.

Fajardo said the religious leader underwent heart-related assessments such as 2D echo, stress test, and blood chemistry.

She said Quiboloy’s activities before confinement were an hour of sun and visitation from his lawyers, personal physician, and spiritual adviser.

Quiboloy is in detention for child abuse and trafficking cases.
