Metro Manila, Philippines — Lisa Macuja’s Ballet Manila is set to stage the Filipino literary classic “Florante at Laura” this month.
The dance company said it is the first ballet adaptation of the literary work, which “showcases the beauty of love and valor but also highlights the resilience of the Filipino spirit.”
Principal dancers Joshua Rey Enciso and Abigail Oliveiro headlines the production, while principal dancer Gerardo Francisco Jr. and British choreographer Martin Lawrance designed the steps and movements.
National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab is behind the adaptation’s music and orchestration, brought into life by the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth under the baton of Cayabyab’s son Toma.
