Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 16) — Filipino workers in Taiwan are now eligible to apply for a multiple-entry visa after the self-ruled island relaxed rules for foreign workers, the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) announced on Tuesday.
The new policy — which would benefit over 150,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan — takes effect this month, accordingt to MECO, citing a report from David Des Dicang, director of the Philippine Migrant Workers Office in Kaohsiung.
“We are very pleased with this latest development that will ease the burden on our OFWs,” MECO chairman Silvestre Bello III said. “This means savings in terms of time and money in the processing of travel documents to Taiwan for our workers.”
Dicang said OFWs leaving Taiwan for vacation are required to inform their manpower agencies, or brokers, of their departure at least three weeks prior.
He said this is to give them enough time for the replacement of their alien resident certificate (ARC), which will indicate they are entitled to a multiple-entry visa.
The validity period of the visa shall not exceed the validity of the ARC, Dicang said.
He added that the re-entry permit will be deemed void if the work permit is cancelled.
