Metro Manila, Philippines — Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste has resigned from the board of directors of a renewable energy company on Friday, Jan. 23.
A stock exchange disclosure filed by SP New Energy Corporation (SPNEC) stated that Leviste stepped down for “personal reasons.”
In a Facebook post, Leviste said he quit to shield Meralco and other investors from political attacks against him.
SPNEC is owned by MG Renewable Energy, Inc., SP Project Holdings, and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
“Sa pag-atake sa akin, iba ang nadadamay. Sana po ay hindi na madamay ang iba,” Leviste said.
[Translation: In attacking me, others are also affected. I hope that no one else will be involved.]
Leviste earlier exited from the board of directors of Terra Solar Philippines Inc. (MTerra Solar), a subsidiary of SPNEC, which recently filed an application to change its corporate name to MGEN Renewable Energy Holdings, Inc.
MGEN President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio replaced Leviste effective Jan. 21.
MTerra Solar said the reorganization of its board supports the company’s move “towards commissioning and the initial injection of energy from its flagship solar project into the national grid.”
