Metro Manila, Philippines – Olympian Joanie Delgaco and Kristine Paraon bagged the gold medal for the Philippines in the women’s double sculls on Tuesday, Dec. 16, in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The Filipino pair registered an official time of 8:16.976, which was nearly five seconds ahead of Thailand with a time of 8:21.634 and Vietnam with 8:26.447.
Delgaco previously represented the country in the Paris Olympics last year, where she became the first female rower from the Philippines to compete at the Summer Games.
Meanwhile, another Filipino Olympian Cris Nievarez settled for bronze in the men’s single sculls with a time of 8:22.121.
The Philippines now has 26 gold medals in the ongoing multi-sport meet.
