(CNN Philippines) — Filipino swimmer Jasmine Alkhaldi finished with a time of 56.30 in the women’s 100M freestyle event, good for a 33rd place finish in Rio.
Unfortunately for the Filipina, she was unable to crack into the semifinals of the competition. Alkhaldi’s defeat signaled the end of the Philippines’ campaign for a medal in aquatics.
Fellow swimmer Jessie Lacuna also failed to make an impact in the men’s 400M freestyle competition.
With the elimination of Alkhaldi, only marathoner Mary Joy Tabal, long jumper Marestella Torres-Sunang, hurdler Eric Cray, taekwondo jin Kirstie Alora, and golfer Miguel Tabuena are the country’s only hopes to add to the medal tally.
Should the Philippines bag another medal, it will be the country’s first campaign since the 1932 Los Angeles games to end with multiple podium finishes.
