Look: Road closures, alternate routes on the Feast of the Black Nazarene

The Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Manila Police District told motorists to expect heavy traffic in some areas in Manila during the Traslacion on January 9.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Motorists and commuters were warned of heavy traffic in parts of Manila on Saturday (January 9) with some roads closed for the Black Nazarene procession.

The Manila Police District’s (MPD) Manila District Traffic Enforcement Unit (MDTEU), in an advisory on Monday (January 4), said that some roads will be closed to traffic for the Traslacion.

Some roads will be closed as early as 9 p.m. on Friday (January 8), while others will be closed to traffic from 12 a.m. on Saturday (January 9).

Katigbak Drive and South Drive are closed on Friday with only one lane accessible to those going to Manila Hotel and H20 Hotel. Other roads that won’t be open to traffic are:

Northbound lane of Quezon and MacArthur Bridge (from Bonifacio Shrine onwards)

Taft Avenue from Freedom Triangle to Bonifacio Shrine

Meanwhile, the following roads will be impassable to traffic on Saturday:

stretch of MacArthur Bridge, Jones Bridge, and Quezon Bridge

Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to T.M. Kalaw St.

both lanes of Quezon Blvd. (Quiapo) from Andalucia/Fugoso St. and España Ave./P. Campa St. for southbound and from Taft Avenue for northbound

Some streets will also be impassable as the procession makes its way on certain areas. But the MDTEU said they will be opened as soon as the tail end of the procession passes that area.

Motorists were also advised to take alternate routes.

Rerouting on January 8

Light vehicles that want to take the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Blvd. headed south shall turn around to Anda Circle going to A. Soriano Ave., then turn right to Gen. Luna St. to Burgos-Orosa St., then turn left to T.M. Kalaw St. to Taft Avenue to their point of destination.

Trucks and other heavy vehicles that want to take the stretch of Bonifacio Drive headed south shall turn around Anda Circle going back to the northbound lane of Road 10 to C3 to their point of destination.

Vehicles from southern part of Manila that want to take the northbound lane of Roxas Blvd., from T.M. Kalaw St. to P. Burgos St., shall turn right to T.M. Kalaw St. left to Orosa St. going to Intramuros, then left to A. Soriano Ave. to their point of destination.

Vehicles travelling from P. Burgos St. shall turn right to Finance Road to Ayala Avenue to their point of destination.

Vehicles using Taft Avenue northbound shall turn right to Ayala Avenue to their point of destination.

Rerouting on January 9

Vehicles coming from Quezon City using the stretch of España Avenue shall turn right to P. Campa St., left to Andalucia St., right to Fugoso St., right to C.M. Recto Avenue to their point of destination.

Vehicles coming from España Avenue intending to proceed to South Pier Zone shall turn left to Nicanor Reyes St., right to C.M. Recto Avenue or left to Mendiola St. to their point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Legarda St. shall turn right to C.M. Recto or left to Mendiola St. to their point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Caloocan using Rizal Avenue, shall turn right to Fugoso St. or C.M. Recto Avenue to their point of destination.

Heavy vehicles or cargo trucks shall take Pres. Osmeña to Pres. Quirino to Nagtahan via A.H. Lacson to Capulong St. and vice versa.

Buses coming from the southern part of Manila using Taft Avenue will only be allowed to go up to Remedios St. effective 5 a.m.
