Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 31) — San Miguel Brewery plans to build a $150-million plant in Los Angeles, California.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Wednesday, San Miguel Corporation (SMC) said President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon Ang planned to allocate $500 million for expansion projects in the U.S. and the Philippines — in Cagayan de Oro and Iloilo City — over the next two and a half years.
A published report said Ang planned to visit the U.S. next month to finalize the purchase of a 10-hectare property in Los Angeles, California.
Ang was quoted as saying the planned U.S. facility will meet higher demand that’s already exceeding export volumes.
The Los Angeles plant, which will be the company’s first facility in the U.S., can produce 200 million liters — the same capacity as those of the planned Cagayan de Oro and Iloilo facilities.
San Miguel Brewery is a joint venture between SMC and Kirin Holdings Company of Japan.
