Cebu City road rage suspect posts bail

David Lim Jr., the suspect in a road rage shooting incident in Cebu City, was released after posting ₱144,000 bail on Thursday afternoon.

Cebu City (CNN Philippines, March 23) — The suspect in the Cebu road rage incident has been released after posting bail this afternoon.

Businessman David Lim, Jr. – who is charged with frustrated homicide and illegal possession of ammunition – posted bail worth ₱144,000 at 5 p.m.

Lim was previously charged with frustrated murder, a non-bailable offense. However, this was downgraded to frustrated homicide by the prosecutor handling the case.

Frustrated homicide is a bailable offense, and Lim’s bail for this was set at ₱120,000. The bail for the illegal possession charge was worth ₱24,000.

Lim surrendered early Tuesday and was detained for two nights at the Cebu City Police Office.

Upon his release, Lim thanked the people that continue to support him and believe in him. He said he is confident that the truth will come out.

All smiles

Lim was escorted by the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) from Cebu City Police to the court building around 1 p.m.

Two branches of the Cebu City Regional Trial Court are handling the cases filed against Lim.

Wearing a basketball jersey and a cap, Lim was all smiles while waiting for the Judge Alexander Acosta to approve his bail petition.

He was accompanied by his lawyer, Orlando Salatandre Jr., sister, and other relatives in court.

After a short interview with the media, Lim boarded a black SUV with a convoy of two other cars from the Qimonda building where the court rooms are located.

Members of the SAF also pulled out from the court parking lot a few minutes after Lim was released.

Ephraim Nuñal, whom Lim shot thrice during their altercation, is still recuperating at the hospital. Nuñal was hit in the left thigh and right ankle.

Reward for full video

Lim’s family is offering ₱300,000 as reward for anyone who can produce an unedited copy of the video showing the road rage shooting incident.

In a statement on Wednesday, Salatandre said the video that went viral – showing Lim shooting Nuñal – was edited.

He said the unedited version of the video will give a more complete understanding of what transpired during the Sunday dawn incident at a road in Barangay Kamputhaw.

Upon Lim’s surrender on Tuesday, Salatandre said his client felt threated by Nuñal and his two companions, who were not shown in the video.

Salatandre said whoever has the full video can submit or show it to any media organization and the family will get in touch with the video’s owner.

He added the family only wants the truth to come out.
