In its latest update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 over the provinces of Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Winds at 30 to 60 kilometers per hour (kph) within the next 36 hours are expected.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 28)— Residents of Luzon and parts of Visayas can expect light to moderate rains over the next few days as tropical storm “Onyok” (international name: Mitag) slightly intensified, the weather bureau said Saturday.

The tropical storm will also bring scattered light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol and Eastern Visayas, PAGASA added.

The weather bureau said Onyok may develop into a severe tropical storm within 24 hours.

Onyok, the 15th tropical cyclone for this year, was last spotted 760 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gusts of up to 105 kph. It is moving northwest at 25 kph.

It may exit the Philippines by Tuesday morning, based on its forecast track, PAGASA said.

There are 10 more tropical cyclones expected to enter the country within the year, the state weather bureau said.
