6.1-magnitude earthquake hits Taiwan

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 18) — A strong 6.1-magnitude earthquake rocked parts of Taiwan on Thursday afternoon, its weather bureau said.

The Central Weather Bureau reported the quake hit northwest of the Hualien County, located over 160 kilometers from Taiwan capital, Taipei.

The weather bureau said an intensity 7 was recorded in Hualien County and intensity 5 was felt in Nantou County, Yilan County, Taichung City, and New Taipei City.

Several aftershocks were also recorded.
