It will be “mostly sunny and warmer than normal” in the run-up to New Year’s Day – from December 29 to 31 – as the ‘Amihan’ or the northeast monsoon is expected to ease in strength. Ursula, which battered central Philippines early this week, is also not affecting the weather in any part of the country anymore.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 27) – After a rainy Christmas Day in parts of the Philippines, revelers could enjoy clear skies and warm weather on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, a forecaster from the state weather bureau said Friday.
However, it will be rainy once more on January 1 and 2 next year, over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas because the Amihan is seen to regain its strength.
Meanwhile, the tail-end of a cold front will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over most of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region on Friday, Estareja said in a briefing.
“We are not seeing any new weather disturbance to affect our country,” forecaster Beni Estareja said over CNN Philippines’ New Day on Friday.
PAGASA also warned of “very rough” seas over the coasts of northern Luzon.
Ursula, last seen west of Zambales, is expected to leave PAGASA’s monitoring area on Saturday morning.
The typhoon is forecast to weaken into a low pressure by Sunday as it moves closer to Vietnam.
