Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 8) — Authorities said checkpoints will be put up around Metro Manila to look out for motorists violating safe driving protocols.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Jojo Garcia said on Tuesday that checkpoints will be placed randomly around the National Capital Region during curfew hours to look out for those driving while intoxicated or over speeding.
He said this will be done in coordination with the Philippine National Highway Patrol Group.
Since the start of the community quarantine in the middle of March, authorities have recorded around 100 road accidents involving public and private vehicles, he also said.
During accidents, drivers would put the blame on concrete barriers installed along EDSA for the bus lane, Garcia said.
However, he pointed out that the accidents are mostly due to driving under the influence of alcohol or while using mobile phones, and over speeding.
Those who will be found violating Republic Act 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, will have their licenses immediately suspended or revoked.
