
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 23) – Former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has tested negative for COVID-19, according to the news arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
Tagle, who is now serving as Prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, has fully recovered from the highly-infectious virus, said the CBCP News, citing information from the Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) in Rome,
Fr. Gregory Gaston, rector of the PCF, said Tagle’s recovery “is indeed a great joy for the whole Church.”
“God wants him to continue serving in the Vatican’s office for the Missions, to bring God’s Good News of love, joy, peace, justice forgiveness and reconciliation – all of which the world needs in a special way these days,” Gaston was quoted as saying by the CBCP News.
The 63-year-old Tagle tested positive for COVID-19 after he arrived on Sept,. 10 from Turin, Italy, where he attended the episcopal ordination of the new Apostolic Nuncio for Mongolia, Fr. Giorgio Marengo.
Tagle did not show any symptoms since he got infected. He underwent close to two weeks of isolation.
Tagle is the second Asian appointed by Pope Francis as Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
