
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 21) — President Rodrigo Duterte has named Michael Braganza Peloton to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
In a statement, Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas welcomed Peloton, who has extensive experience in both law and information technology.
“Commissioner Peloton is a timely addition to the Commission En Banc as his vast experience in the field of law and information technology will highly contribute in our thrust to further improve and revolutionize our electoral processes,” Abas said.
Duterte nominated the new commissioner on Sept. 17 with a term expiring on Feb. 2, 2027.
Once approved by the the Commission on Appointments, Peloton will replace former commissioner Luie Tito Guia, who retired in February.
Pelotion will be joining commissioners Ma. Rowena Amelia Guanzon, Socorro Inting, Marlon Casquejo and Antonio Kho Jr.
Peloton joins the poll body in time with its preparations for the national and local elections in 2022..
The Comelec has resumed voters’ registration, which will still require physically going to any of its office despite the health concerns brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Registration will end in September 2021.
