Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 16) — The total number of Coast Guard personnel infected with COVID-19 has risen to 313, its spokesperson said on Thursday.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Commodore Armand Balilo said from 63 cases recorded at the start of July, there are now 313 infected Coast Guard frontliners, with 230 active cases. Eighty-three have recovered.

He said the personnel who tested positive for COVID-19 were deployed in areas assisting returning overseas Filipinos, locally stranded individuals, and maritime stakeholders including fishermen, ship crew, and cargo truck drivers.

PCG Commandant Vice Admiral George Ursabia Jr. said that most of their cases are asymptomatic.

The Philippines now has 58,850 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease, as the Department of Health reported another 1,392 infections on Wednesday.
