Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 9) – After a four-year hiatus in the music scene, singer and songwriter Rico Blanco released his new single to uplift the spirits of everyone affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The former Rivermaya frontman composed the song ‘This Too Shall Pass’ as an expression of his feelings of being alone during the pandemic and sympathizing to those who are severely affected by the disease.
Blanco also bared he underwent a wrist surgery a week before the lockdown and regularly looks the welfare of his co-members as the president of the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
“The last thing on my mind is coming up with a song. It just came up because of all the feelings that are swelling up inside me and the things that I wanted to say,” Blanco told CNN Philippines’ Rico Hizon on Tuesday.
Blanco shared he did the song with less supervision from other people, since he was also the arranger, producer, sound engineer, and sound master in his new musical piece.
“It’s hard to complain considering what’s going on in the big picture. As far as being a musician, the situation is different this time. Something in me was pushing me to really get this message out,” he said.
Blanco hopes his song will reach many people, especially the pandemic frontliners, as this will serve as his message of support for them during these trying times.
“I’ve been feeling very guilty because I haven’t give a prior message to all our hardworking and brave essential workers,” said Blanco.
Full proceeds of the song’s music video will be donated to Puhon! Project, which raises funds for personal protective equipment and nutrition support for frontline healthcare workers, COVID-19 testing kits, and relief goods for daily wage workers.
