Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 7)— As the country commemorates the Migrant Workers’ Day, the Philippine government paid tribute to overseas Filipino workers who have been manning the frontlines against the COVID-19 pandemic in other countries.
The Department of Foreign Affairs released Sunday a clip honoring OFW frontliners in various nations including the United States, Cambodia, Japan, and Norway.
The video showcased Filipinos who have been working tirelessly abroad as medical workers, teachers, and essential staff amid the health crisis. It also featured video greetings from their relatives and loved ones.
“Overseas Filipino Workers care not only for the Filipinos, but for the rest of the world,” read a part of the clip.
Migrant Workers’ Day is celebrated by virtue of the enactment of Republic Act No. 8042 or the Migrant Workers Act on June 7 1995, a landmark measure which aims to advance the well-being of OFWs, their families, and Filipinos in distress.
“Even during this time of pandemic, people across the globe are witnesses to the valuable contributions of our migrant workers, our modern-day-heroes,” the DFA said in a separate statement.
