Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 11) — The Department of Labor and Employment has launched a COVID-19 response tracking system for returning overseas Filipino workers for repatriation and assistance purposes.
The tracking system is called OASIS or the OFW Assistance Information System.
“The system that we created aims to give our OFWs a ray of hope by ensuring that we provide them efficient and timely assistance to ease their anxieties when returning home in the midst of this pandemic,” Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said in a statement Thursday.
Bello said that the government will be able to track the whereabouts of the OFWs who will register in the system, and prompt assistance and relief upon their arrival in the country.
According to the DOLE statement, the OASIS was developed by seasoned crisis management personnel from the agency, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
“The system will help DOLE identify and classify arriving OFWs in a number of ways to facilitate organized arrival at the airport, efficient swab testing, and rapid pick up and transport to their respective hotels and homes and other necessary processes,” the statement read.
OASIS will be able to gather the following data:
– Status of OFWs in a no work, no pay setup.
– OFWs to be repatriated (those who ended their contracts, and those whose contracts were terminated)
– Number of flights
– Destinations
– List of workers for referral in local or overseas employment
The system will also be able to better facilitate the preparation of meals, accommodation, transportation, and RT-PCR tests for OFWs, said DOLE.
