Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 31) — The number of overseas Filipino workers with COVID-19 increased by more than 2,000 after late reports arrived from the Middle East, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Sunday.

In its latest update, the DFA said there are now 5,184 confirmed cases, adding the “significant increase” of 2,315 from Saturday was due to “some late reports received by our Posts in the Middle East, where many Host Governments implement strict data privacy and confidentiality rules.”

“The latest increase in figures represents an accumulation of data that was only released yesterday.” said the DFA.

The DFA, however, noted the total of OFWs who have recovered is now at 2,151, and there were no new fatalities reported on Sunday.

“Just as significant, no new fatalities due to COVID-19 were reported today. In fact the number of fatalities has decreased by one from yesterday to 339, after 1 reported death in Europe was delisted after confirmation that the patient remains to be in critical condition,” it said.
